At CES 2017 that was held last week in Los Angeles, Polaroid celebrated its 80th anniversary by launching its new product called Polaroid Pop. Polaroid Pop marks the debut of the newest camera in the popular line of Polaroid instant digital photography products. With Polaroid Pop, Polaroid is back again this year at CES with another new camera that mixes digital and physical photography.
The Polaroid Pop captures 3-inch by 4-inch instant photos using Inkless Zink photo paper. The Pop is pretty similar to its predecessors. It’s not just an instant camera, but also a digital camera. This means you can capture photos in either formats or both.
Polaroid Pop Comes with 20-Megapixel Camera
The Polaroid Pop comes with a 20-megapixel CMOS sensor inside, with a 3.9-inch LCD touchscreen. It comes with a dual LED flash for high-quality images, image stabilization and can also record 1080p videos. The camera can store photos up to 128 GB with an SD card. The Polaroid Pop also has Wifi and Bluetooth for transferring images to your phone and for printing photos from your camera roll.
Fresh Design and Nostalgia
The Polaroid Pop blends nostalgia with modern design and functionality. The company stays true to its core values of instant, easy-to-use photography. It takes a step up with a fresh form factor and the latest technology. The Polaroid Pop was designed in partnership with Ammunition Group- the design firm that is responsible for products like last year’s Polaroid Snap and Apple’s Beats Pill+. In the past, Ammunition has partnered with award-winning consumer brands like Adobe, Square, and Lyft.
With the Polaroid Pop, Ammunition maintained the simple yet modern and stylish design. The jet black camera body of Pop is featured with a pop of color, or a simple monochromatic look. The Pop has the iconic red shutter button that provides a one-shutter control that they have been using since years on their Polaroids.
Zero Ink Print Technology
At the heart of Polaroid’s Pop is a new integrated printer that makes use of ZINK Zero Ink Print Technology. This allows the users to print full-color photos in the iconic 3-inch by 4-inch format. The ZINK-enabled printer uses heat to activate and colorize cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals embedded in the paper. The result is full-color, high quality, long-lasting and smudge-proof images without ink cartridges, ribbons or toner. Because ZINK Paper is adhesive backed the photo can be used as a sticker as well.
The Polaroid App
Using the Polaroid print app, you can edit and enhance your prints with a number of creative filters, digital stickers, effects, and controls. The Polaroid app is available for both iOS and Android users for free. This will give users the all-in-one solution for capturing and sharing images on the go. Users will now be able to share their clicks with their own creative flair.
The Polaroid Pop has a self-timer, perfect for today’s selfie generation. The Polaroid Pop comes in three colors- black and white, color, and vintage sepia that will give an iconic polaroid look and feel.
Releasing in the Last Quarter
There has been no word regarding the pricing of Polaroid Pop neither is there a final date of release. But it is said to be released by the end of January 2017.
