Microsoft has revealed Windows 10 S. It is the rumored Windows Cloud OS that focuses on the classroom. Windows 10 S is a stripped-down version of Windows 10 expected to take on Chrome OS and Chromebooks. On 2nd May, Microsoft unmasked Windows Cloud as it. They call it the soul of today’s Windows. It will be a free upgrade for all schools on PCs running genuine Pro versions of Windows.
Fast, Safe, And Secure
It offers a familiar, productive Windows experience that is designed in order to provide security and performance. It does that by exclusively using apps in the Windows Store. Windows 10 S ensures that you browse safely with Microsoft Edge. Windows 10 S keeps your PC running fast and secure all the time.
Inspired by students & teachers.
It was inspired by students and teachers. It is the best Windows ever for schools. It’s also a great choice for any Windows customer looking for consistent performance and advanced security. Windows 10 S is ideal for people who have everything they need in the Windows Store, by limiting the apps to those in the Windows Store. It is for those who prefer the peace of mind that comes with removing the risk of downloading apps from other places.
Aimed at Students & Teachers
It is aimed at students and teachers. It will be available on laptops priced from just $189 in time for the next school year. Its hardware partners include Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujistsu, HP, Samsung and Toshiba. Windows 10 S will run on any laptop, right from ultra-low-cost models to high-spec machines. The list also includes Microsoft’s own Surface range and the newly announced Surface Laptop.
Still Working on It
Windows 10 S will work entirely with compatible apps from the Windows Store. It has just been recently announced. So Windows is still working with their partners on app compatibility and to provide more detailed information. Many hardware peripherals that work with Windows 10 today will work with Windows 10 S. They may have limited functionality.
The main change in Windows 10 S over standard Windows 10 is that you can download and install apps only from the Windows Store. It helps to keep the machines ultra-secure. Apps then run in a safe area that prevents them from affecting the overall performance of the machine. Microsoft claims that Windows 10 S laptops will offer the exact same performance on the first day out of the box as on the last day of life.
Quick & Centrally Managed
Windows 10 S machines can support devices and peripherals in the same way as standard Windows 10 devices. Windows 10 S laptops start up very quickly, in around 15 seconds. This means students can be ready to work much faster. The settings for a group of Windows 10 S laptops can be centrally managed. This allows you to quickly make changes on every machine. Teachers can easily set up an environment that is pre-configured in about 30 seconds by plugging in a USB stick to each machine.
Available This Summer
Microsoft says Windows 10 S will be available on new laptops from its partners this summer. This means they will be in student’s hands for the next school year. For schools already running Windows Pro PCs, the new OS is free. New laptops that are able to run it on them will be available from $189.
